The ones I tried before had specific display drivers that would load an overlay. I tried Teamviewer without installing the graphic driver and am able to now control the system even with DOSBox up and full screen. Hope either of these might help, otherwise best of luck trying to get it do-able until they can get it replaced. I don’t know that this has changed. They didn’t want to upgrade, I didn’t think they were “good money” so we parted ways. They are out of business. I’m leaning towards cutting out any doubt whatsoever and creating a VPN tunnel from work to my home machine, and just remoting in every night to do it myself.
I’ve never set up VPN before however, but that can be another thread for another day I have tried DOSbox, but encountered the same issue when accessed remotely. However, I have not tried teamviewer. Going to give it a punt now. Thanks for the comprehensive reply, I’ll keep you posted. Part of the problem I had was the hardware remote display drivers that some of the other software had installed. If I remember correctly, for one machine in the past, I just uninstalled the LogMeIn remote display driver from the computer’s device manager and I think it fixed a similar problem with the overlay and a program.
I’m not entirely sure it’ll work for this situation but it may be worth looking into. So TeamViewer worked as an intermediate solution for me many thanks for that. I figured it had to be related to an update somewhere down the line. So, for about 9 hours, I tested alllll the updates for compatibility with the application it was snapshot city.
I kind of figured out it was an update that would mess with some specific libraries, so it wasn’t completely trial and error, but yeah it took it some time to find the specific troublemakers. Eventually I narrowed it down to just three updates, however, uninstalled them from the production server, and BAM!
Please include the 3 updates you had to remove to get it working for you so anyone encountering this thread in the future with similar issues may benefit from your diligence in narrowing down the culprits.
